چکیده

Photonic microresonators have great potential in the application of highly sensitive sensors due to high Q-factor resonances and steep slopes between zero and unity transmission. A microring resonator with increased resonance slopes is proposed by introducing two partially reflecting elements implemented by waveguide offsets. This configuration produces a Fano-resonant line shape and can greatly enhance the sensitivity of the sensor. Polystyrene microring resonators were fabricated by the nanoimprinting technique, and the optical spectra were measured in glucose solutions of different concentrations. The shift in resonant wavelength and variation of the normalized transmitted intensity are linearly related to the concentration of the glucose solution. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1605261#

Silicon-Nitride-Based Integrated Optofluidic Biochemical Sensors Using a Coupled-Resonator Optical Waveguide

Silicon nitride (SiN) is a promising material platform for integrating photonic components andmicrofluidic channels on a chip for label-free, optical biochemical sensing applications in the visible to near-infrared wavelengths. The chip-scale SiN-based optofluidic sensors can be compact due to a relatively high refractive index contrast between SiN and the fluidic medium, and low-cost due to th...

A Computational Approach to Optimize Microring Resonators for Biosensing Applications

Microcavity structures have recently found utility in chemical/biological sensing applications. The appeal of these structures over other refractive index-based sensing schemes, such as those based on surface plasmon resonance, lies in their potential for producing a highly sensitive response to binding events. High-Q devices, characterized by sharp line widths, are extremely attractive for sen...

Ultrasensitive Biosensors Using Enhanced Fano Resonances in Capped Gold Nanoslit Arrays

Nanostructure-based sensors are capable of sensitive and label-free detection for biomedical applications. However, plasmonic sensors capable of highly sensitive detection with high-throughput and low-cost fabrication techniques are desirable. We show that capped gold nanoslit arrays made by thermal-embossing nanoimprint method on a polymer film can produce extremely sharp asymmetric resonances...
